Let’s Talk Tumbling
First of all – what is tumbling? Tumbling is a form of gymnastics that does not require any form of equipment or props. Specifically, it is a performance of acrobatic movements such as rolls, twists, somersaults, and even handsprings, all on floor mats with no help. Students can even learn to do flips and jump after some time.
Why is Tumbling so Popular in Utah?
Tumbling Hones in Skills For All Sports
Tumbling provides a great foundation for ALL sports. In fact, it develops strength, flexibility, balance, agility and coordination…all skills needed for sports like soccer, hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball and football. The flexibility used to do a leg split is the same flexibility a hockey or soccer player uses to save a goal. Whether they are looking to become a competitive gymnast or participate in other sports, tumbling gives kids a great foundation to succeed.
Tumbling Teaches Resilience
Tumbling is a sport where you fall again and again, and have to continually brush yourself off and get back up there. While kids will undoubtedly fall, they will quickly learn to get back up. Tumbling reinforces the “power of yet”. Rather than conditioning oneself to say “I can’t do it”, it teaches one to say “I can’t do it YET”. This lesson is incredibly valuable not only in other sports, but also in life. This resilient mentality will eventually pay off.
Weather or Not, It’s Open Year Round
Tumbling isn’t based on weather. Because it is primarily done inside, it is a year round sport. Therefore, there is no need to wait until gymnastics season. As a result, kids can participate year round or whenever it fits with their schedule. During the “off” season from other sports, taking tumbling classes builds strength and coordination. Then, when the season is in full swing, they will be conditioned and ready to perform. Whether rain or shine, hot or cold, tumbling provides a nice environment for every child to flip, twist, and move.
